ReferU.AI is the “Tinder for Finding an Attorney.” We help people with legal needs connect with attorneys who have demonstrable experience in similar legal matters, grounded in real court records.
Why We Built ReferU.AI:
We built ReferU.AI after watching a close friend experience a serious injury and their case was deadlocked before a claim was even filed. They searched for an attorney the way everyone does: recommendations from family and friends, search engines, online lawyer directories, and bar associations. After hearing “not a fit” 140 times over a period of two years, it became clear the process of finding an attorney was broken.
As a former senior executive at a leading provider of Agentic-AI for Fortune 500s, Joel Geddis, Founder & CEO of ReferU.AI, couldn’t shake the question: “Dating apps solved chemistry with AI & ML, so why do we still search for attorneys like it’s 1995?” That question motivated him to purchase millions of records from that court, spin up an AI agent over a weekend and, ultimately, surface an overlooked trial attorney who delivered a life-changing outcome with a single demand letter.

How We’re Different:
Most attorney searches are shaped by legal marketing know-how. ReferU.AI matches based on demonstrable experience; evidenced by mining billions of court records. We do not sell advertising, and attorneys cannot pay to influence our matching in any way.
Structured for Impact:
We believe equal access to justice starts with equal access to information and representation. In a first-of-its-kind court observation study of child welfare hearings, 23% of children had no advocate and, in 22% of cases, the child was never even mentioned. For that reason, ReferU.AI was structured as a Public Benefit Corporation, and we pledge a portion of profits to the ReferU.AI Foundation, a non-profit that provides low- to no-clost experienced legal representation for children in courts.
Who We Are:
ReferU.AI was founded by Joel Geddis in 2024 in Houston, Texas. We are a small team of talented product leaders, data scientists, AI and ML engineers, PhD-level AI and Human Computer Interaction researchers, UI/UX designers, business analysts, and marketers, motivated by the fact that there's a direct link between the code we ship and our users' lives.

HOW WE MATCH AND HOW WE GET PAID. Matches are generated using objective criteria applied to authoritative public data about courts and attorneys (for example, court documents, bar-association information, and recognized certifications). Attorneys cannot pay to be included on the platform or to be ranked higher in your results, and we do not use self-submitted marketing profiles to generate matches. When you choose to have us facilitate a consultation with an attorney identified through the platform, we may charge that attorney a standard technology and marketing fee for that introduction. This fee is not charged to you and is not a share of, or percentage of, any legal fees or recovery.
EVERY CASE IS UNIQUE. Any statistics, examples, or case outcomes referenced on this site are based on selected data and time periods and our internal methods for identifying similar matters. They are illustrative only. Every case is unique, and outcomes depend on many factors, including the specific facts and law of each matter and the attorney you choose.
